The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
