Our Task Involves Only Killing' - How The Sudanese Brutal Fighting Force Perpetrated a Massacre
Caution: This Report Contains Disturbing Descriptions of Shootings.
Militiamen smirk as they ride on the bed of a utility vehicle, speeding by a line of multiple dead bodies and heading facing the setting Sudanese sun.
"Look at all this work. Look at this act of mass destruction," a fighter shouts.
The fighter beams as he directs the camera on his own face and his fellow militiamen, their RSF insignia visible: "They are all going to be killed in this manner."
The combatants are exulting in a massacre that aid workers believe killed over 2,000 people in the Sudanese metropolis of el-Fasher last month.
An Urban Center Severed from the Outside
After maintaining the city under encirclement for almost two years, from the summer the RSF proceeded to reinforce its control and restrict the remaining civilian population.
Orbital photography reveal that troops began to build a massive sand wall - a built-up dirt embankment - around the edges of the city, sealing off access routes and preventing relief supplies.
As the siege worsened, seventy-eight individuals were killed in an paramilitary assault on a religious building on 19 September, while the United Nations stated fifty-three more were killed in drone and artillery bombardments on a displacement camp in October.
Disturbing Footage Reveals Unarmed People Shot
In the early morning on 26 October the paramilitary force defeated the remaining government strongholds and seized the primary base in the city, the command center of the Military Unit, as the government forces pulled back.
Among the most horrific recordings to surface and examined revealed the consequences of a massacre at a campus structure on the western of the community, where numerous corpses were observed spread across the ground.
A senior man dressed in a robe remained by himself amid the victims. The man looked to glance as a fighter equipped with a firearm proceeded down the steps in the direction of the individual. Raising his rifle, the shooter discharged a single bullet at the individual, who collapsed to the floor still.
"Why is this one yet living," another combatant exclaimed. "Kill this person."
Orbital photography taken on late October seemed to verify that killings were also carried out on the thoroughfares of al-Fashir, as reported by a study released by the university analysis team.
An witness who spoke reported they had observed "numerous of our family members being massacred - they were collected in a single location and all killed."
Militia Commanders Attempt to Implement Public Relations
Following the events that ensued from the atrocity, militia commander admitted that his troops had perpetrated "atrocities" and said the occurrences would be investigated.
Included among apprehended was subsequent to a report detailing his executions. Carefully staged and produced footage shared on the militia's authorized messaging account reveal the commander being taken into a detention area at a detention facility on the perimeter of al-Fashir.
Simultaneously, the RSF and associated social media channels began trying to alter the story.
Updates depicting its combatants providing supplies to residents were shared by various individuals, while the militia's communications team shared several clips claiming to demonstrate the proper handling of army captives.
In spite of the digital effort being used by the paramilitary, their conduct in al-Fashir have provoked worldwide condemnation.
